of APVA member Mike Smyth competing and winning in his age
group for the Senior Olympics in Tucson last month. He shot
a 398/400 in the Rimfire Pistol Division. The S.O. were
fun and there are events for all of us no matter what
our ability level is.

Sports and Recreation Program
Arizona PVA will promote and provide sporting and recreational
events, activities, education and funding for persons with mobility
impairments. |
The APVA has a proud history
of being a sponsor of disabled sports in Arizona. We also promote
and collaborate with others to provide organized sports to all disabled
individuals. Our partnerships with other organizations allow APVA
to help provide all scopes of recreation that we have been recognized
for.
In 2004, we sponsored
two Division II basketball tournaments, in concert with the Banner
Phoenix Suns. This sponsorship is also utilized for the disabled
children's basketball program. This partnership not only assists
the local wheelchair basketball team, but helps provide training
to young members of the community. We also help to sponsor the APVA
Tucson Lobos, another Division II basketball team
One of the up and coming
sports in the country is "Over
the Line", a softball-like game, consisting of at least
three players and played on a concrete or black top surface. The
Chapter is proud to sponsor the Over-the-Line Softball program in
Arizona and currently has six teams in the Valley.
Over The Line World Championships.

Some of the groups or
events we've recently sponsored include:
Power
Soccer Video. Youtube, 2006 Nationals. Arizona Heat vs San Jose
Steamrollers.
The reward the Chapter
receives is what athletes give back to the community. Several have
been recognized for their accomplishments in the Para-Olympics and
World Games.
